I Hear It All the Time

“I’ll get in the next one.”

“I’m not feeling great about myself right now.”

“I’d rather just be behind the camera today.”

And I get it. I really do. I’ve said those same things.

But I’m also a mom and a grandma. And I can tell you with everything in me:

You will not remember how you looked.

You will remember that you were there.

That’s what I want to talk about today.

The Photos You’re Avoiding Are the Ones They’ll Treasure Most

It doesn’t matter if it’s a fresh 48 session in the quiet of a hospital room, an outdoor family session in October when everyone is a little tired and the toddler is done, or a spring morning in a greenhouse surrounded by flowers.

The photos where you show up are the ones that become heirlooms.

Not because you looked perfect.

Because you were present.

Your kids are not going to look back at your gallery and notice your postpartum belly or the fact that your hair wasn’t done.

They’re going to look for you.

They’re going to want to see your face next to theirs.

They’re going to want proof that you were there for all of it.

As a Boise family photographer, this is the conversation I find myself having more than almost any other. And I want moms across the Treasure Valley to hear it loud and clear.

I See You Trying to Disappear

In almost every lifestyle family photography session I photograph, there’s a moment where mom steps back.

She redirects.

She points the attention somewhere else.

She makes herself small so everyone else can shine.

And I always gently pull her back in.

Because here’s what I know from behind my camera:

You are not a distraction from the image.

You are the image.

The way your baby looks at you.

The way your kids reach for you without even thinking about it.

The way your whole family orbits around you without realizing it.

That cannot be captured if you’re not there.

A Note About the Greenhouse Mamas

Last spring I had the honor of photographing Mother’s Day sessions inside a local greenhouse here in the Treasure Valley. Soft light. Warm greenery. Flowers everywhere.

And in almost every single one, I had to coax mom into the frame.

These women were stunning. In that light, in that setting, surrounded by their babies, they were everything.

And most of them almost didn’t get in the photo.

I’m so glad they did.

Those images are some of my favorites I’ve ever made. Not because of the setting, though it was gorgeous, but because of what was captured in them:

A mom, present.

Seen.

Documented.

You Don’t Have to Feel Ready

I want to say this clearly because I think it matters:

You do not have to feel confident, or thin, or put together, or like yourself to get in the photo.

You just have to show up.

My job as your Caldwell and Boise family photographer is to make you feel safe in front of my camera. To find the light that flatters you. To guide you in a way that makes you forget I’m even there. To catch the moment when you’re laughing at something your kid did and you’ve stopped thinking about how you look.

That’s the moment.

That’s always the moment.

The Ask

If you have a session coming up, get in the photo.

If you’ve been putting off booking because you’re waiting until you feel ready, book the session.

If you have images sitting in a gallery that you haven’t printed because you’re not in them, let’s fix that.

You belong in the frame, mama.

Your family needs to see you there. And someday, so will you.

If you’re looking for a lifestyle family photographer in Boise, Caldwell, or anywhere in the Treasure Valley who will make sure you are in the images too, I’d love to connect.

Let’s make something beautiful together.

Ready to Book?

You deserve to be in the photos too.

If you’ve been waiting for the right time, the right photographer, or just someone who will make you feel safe in front of the camera, I’m here for that.

I’d love to capture your family’s story, with you in every frame that matters.
