Some sessions are special because the light is perfect, the location is beautiful, or everything clicks effortlessly.

This session was special for a different reason.

These two are my parents.

Photographing them together reminded me why I do what I do, and why documenting family at every stage matters so much.

Love Looks Different in Every Season

When we think about family photography, we often picture newborn snuggles, toddlers running wild, or kids squeezed in tight between their parents. Those seasons are incredibly meaningful, but they’re only part of the story.

Long-term love is quieter. It’s comfortable. It’s steady.

It’s laughter without trying. Hands that naturally reach for each other. A shared look that says everything without a word.

Watching my parents interact during this session felt like watching decades of life lived together, raising kids, building a family, weathering hard seasons, and choosing each other over and over again.

That kind of connection can’t be posed.

Why I Believe in Photographing More Than Just One Stage

As a family photographer, I see the full timeline unfold.

• Newborns become toddlers • Toddlers become teenagers • Parents become grandparents • Families grow, shift, and expand

This session was a reminder that family photography isn’t about one moment—it’s about continuity.

The couple you see holding their newborn today? One day, they’ll be standing in this same spot, watching their grandchildren laugh.

That’s why I never see sessions as isolated events. Each one is part of a bigger story.

Adding Grandchildren to the Story

Toward the end of this session, we brought a couple of the grandkids in—and the dynamic shifted in the most beautiful way.

Suddenly there was laughter, movement, and that unmistakable energy only kids bring. My parents instinctively leaned in, arms wrapping around them, smiles softening even more.

As a grandma myself, these moments hit close to home.

Grandparent sessions hold so much meaning: • They capture legacy • They preserve relationships kids may not fully understand yet • They become priceless as years pass

I’ve photographed grandparent sessions before, and I have another one coming up this spring—and every time, I’m reminded how important these images are.

What I Want My Clients to Know

Whether you’re: • Holding your first baby • Navigating busy family life • Celebrating decades together • Or soaking up time with your grandchildren

Your story deserves to be documented.

Not because everything is perfect, but because it’s real.

The photos you take today will mean more tomorrow. And someday, they’ll mean everything.
