If you’re expecting a baby, first of all… congratulations.
This season is such a beautiful mix of excitement, anticipation, and that feeling of how is this already happening so soon?
One of the most common questions I hear from expecting parents is:
“When should we book newborn photos?”
And the answer is simple:
The earlier, the better — especially if you want a calm, flexible, stress-free experience once baby arrives.
In this post, I’m sharing the best time to book newborn photos in Boise, along with the different session options I offer so you can choose what feels right for your family.
When Is the Best Time to Book Newborn Photos?
The best time to reserve your newborn session is typically during your second trimester or early third trimester, around 20–32 weeks pregnant.
Newborn photography is different from other types of sessions because it requires built-in flexibility around your due date. I only take a limited number of newborn clients each month so I can reserve space for those unpredictable arrival days.
When you book, we’ll use your estimated due date to hold a spot on my calendar. Once your baby arrives, we’ll choose the exact session date based on how you’re feeling, your recovery, and what works best for your family.
Booking early ensures you have a spot reserved, time to plan without rushing, and a relaxed, baby-led experience once your little one is here.
Newborn Session Options I Offer in Boise
Every family has a different vision for newborn photos, which is why I offer a few session types — all designed to feel calm, meaningful, and centered around connection.
Whether you want those very first hospital memories, cozy moments at home, or classic studio portraits, there’s an option that fits your style.
Fresh 48 Sessions (Hospital Newborn Photos)
A Fresh 48 session takes place within the first 24–48 hours after your baby is born, usually right in your hospital room.
These sessions are perfect for capturing the tiny details, the emotion of those very first hours, and the sweet, unposed moments as your family meets your newest little love.
Fresh 48 sessions are simple, natural, and documentary — no pressure, no complicated posing, just the beginning of your baby’s story.

Lifestyle Newborn Sessions (In-Home Newborn Photos)
A lifestyle newborn session is relaxed, connection-focused, and centered around your family just as you are.
These sessions take place in the comfort of your own home, where we capture cozy, meaningful moments with your new baby — snuggles in the nursery, quiet moments in the bedroom, and the sweet everyday details you’ll want to remember forever.
Lifestyle newborn sessions are perfect if you want images that feel real, warm, and timeless, with a gentle, baby-led approach.
And please don’t worry about having a perfectly clean house. I promise you, that is never the focus. These photos are about love, not perfection.

Studio Newborn Sessions (Classic, Cozy, and Fully Styled)
For families who love a more timeless and polished newborn look, I also offer studio newborn sessions near Boise, in my cozy Caldwell studio.
Studio sessions are designed to be calm, warm, and baby-focused, with simple styling that keeps the attention on your little one.
This is a beautiful option if you’re hoping for classic newborn portraits, wrapped baby images, and a cozy indoor setting without needing to prepare your home.
Studio newborn sessions are gentle, relaxed, and always baby-led, creating timeless photographs you’ll treasure for years.

What If My Baby Comes Early or Late?
Don’t worry — newborn sessions are always planned with flexibility.
When you book, I reserve space around your due date, and once baby arrives we’ll finalize the best date based on your recovery, baby’s arrival timing, and your family’s comfort.
You don’t need to have everything perfectly figured out ahead of time — I’ll guide you through the process step by step.
Limited Monthly Availability for Newborn Sessions
Because newborn photography requires extra care and flexibility, I accept only a limited number of sessions each month.
If you’re expecting in the coming months and would like to reserve a spot, I recommend reaching out early so we can plan something beautiful and stress-free.
